Objectives:

	To study the optical properties of semiconductors and amorphous materials.
	To train students in the use of lasers and teach them about optical techniques.
	To collaborate with other researchers at the College of New Jersey and scientists with common interests.
	To apply optical techniques such as spectroscopy, optical tweezing, 4f-Fourier Transforms, digital holography, to various systems and the developing of experiments for physics courses.

Techniques Used and Equipment Available:

	Macro- and micro-Raman, photoluminescence and absorbance spectroscopies
	Measurements from 77 K to room temperature
	5 Watt Coherent Argon-Ion laser, 40 mW 785 nm near IR laser, 40 mW 445 nm Blue laser, and several HeNe lasers
	0.5 m SPEX Monochromator with a PMT and an JY CCD, SRS photon counting electronics
	Liquid nitrogen dewar, SRS lock-in amplifier
	Two 4×8 ft and two 3×5 ft actively isolated optical tables
	Optical tweezers system and 4f- Fourier Transform system.
	Polarizers, notch and interference filters, two 2.5×5 ft optical tables, and various other optical components.
